Wendy Shay's Call to Action: A Plea for President Akufo-Addo's Support

Award-winning Ghanaian songstress, Wendy Shay has passionately appealed to the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Akudo-Addo.

In the closing few months, many Ghanaians have been complaining bitterly about the exorbitant expenses importers have to pay for the vehicles they convey into the country.

Adding her voice to that of the masses, Wendy Shay took to her Twitter web page to beg the president to intervene in the miserable situation.

In her tweet, the ‘Survivor’ hitmaker mentioned that she was aware that the president has the welfare of Ghanaians at hand, however, on the amount of Ghanaians are paying at the Tema port, the first gentleman must look into the matter.

She went on to compare the staggering amount Ghanaian importers mostly have to pay on cars they bring into the country.

The Rufftown Records signee disclosed that a car bought in the US for $35,000 would require an additional $30,000 in import duties, which is over a whooping Ghc397,000.

“Your excellency @NAkufoAddo Mr president, I know you have the welfare of Ghanaians at heart but can you please do something about import duties, especially on cars? The import duties on cars are way Outrageous. You buy a car in the US for $35,000 (397,707.10 Cedis) and pay $30,000 USD (340,891.80 Cedis) as duty. Please do something Mr. President,” she wrote.
